In 2025, Michigan Additive Technologies acquired the business assets and technology of the antimony trioxide (ATO) based flame retardant business from The MAT Division of The RJ Marshall Company, a trusted name in the industry for decades.

Meet The Team

Dr. Veronica Livingstone

Chief Operating Officer

Veronica has a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Toledo specializing in polymer/inorganic composites with a focus on experimental design, synthetic method, and characterization of these materials. Veronica has several publications in materials, polymer and inorganic chemistry fields. She has vast experience in instrumentation application and the development of composites.

Career milestones include:

6 years at The RJ Marshall Company as a Research Scientist, Technical Manager, and Plant Manager
Developed and launched 15+ products for RJM including flame retardants, smoke suppressants, and lightweight blends

As the COO of MAT, Veronica provides technical and operational leadership, directing manufacturing, quality control, and R&D. Her scientific expertise allows her to ensure product consistency, advanced technical support, and innovative solutions.

David Roberts

Senior Advisor - Strategy Growth

Originally from the UK, David has extensive flame retardant compound experience as an R&D leader in the wire & cable industry and the polymer compounding industry. Holding an undergraduate degree in Chemistry and a Masters of Science in Polymer Engineering, David holds 12 patents covering reactive polymers, advanced flame-retardant compounds, cable technologies, and seismic retrofit systems.
Career milestones include leadership positions in R&D and strategy:

R&D leader at BICC Cables (UK & North America)
Global VP R&D and Acting President at Saint-Gobain Technical Fabrics (Canada & US)
Chief Technical Officer at SACO AEI Polymers
Technical Director since 2018 at The RJ Marshall Company

As the Senior Advisor, David leverages his vast experience to advise MAT staff and customers on business growth and technical developments.

Suzanna Murphy

Commercial Manager

Suzanna has nearly three decades of experience in customer relations and account management for the flame retardant and additive industries. With a strong background in communication and problem resolution, she has built trusted, long-term relationships with clients and partners across a wide range of applications.

Career milestones include:

28 years at The RJ Marshall Company supporting sales, logistics, and technical teams to ensure customer satisfaction and seamless order fulfillment
Extensive experience managing customer accounts, coordinating international and domestic shipments, and providing timely solutions to meet client needs

As the Commercial Manager at MAT, Suzanna continues to deliver the same high standard of support, serving as a key point of contact for customers and ensuring that their requirements are met with accuracy, responsiveness, and professionalism.

Danielle Gassie

Assistant Plant and Lab Manager

Danielle earned her Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and has built a career spanning roles in quality control, R&D, and material science. Her experience covers diverse areas of industrial chemistry, giving her a strong foundation in both applied research and large-scale production environments.

Her technical proficiency spans a wide range of instrumentation, including SEM, EDS, PXRD, ICP-MS, ICP-OES, UV-VIS, GC-MS, thermal techniques, particle size analysis, and oxygen analysis.

Career milestones include:

4 years at First Solar as a Chemist with responsibilities in quality control and R&D
2 years at The RJ Marshall Company as a Materials Technologist, specializing in analytical testing and additive performance

As the Assistant Plant and Lab Manager for MAT, Danielle leads new product development, quality assurance, and environmental regulation and compliance.

Dr. Matthew Dong

Technical Sales and Business Development Manager

Matthew serves as the Technical Sales and Business Development Manager at MAT. He holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign specializing in self-healing materials, and he holds several publications and patents in the field. Matthew has extensive hands-on and in-depth knowledge of PVC, TPE, TPO and rubber formulations, as well as their specific applications and requirements.

Career milestones include:

18 years' experience in the polymers industry, particularly, 11 years' experience with major North America polymer compounders and raw material suppliers
High-profile roles in technology management, business development, account management, technical sales, and technical services.

As the Technical Sales and Business Development Manager of MAT, Matthew leverages his excellent technical expertise, business acumen, and customer-facing skills to rapidly expand the company's commercial footprint. Matthew is also instrumental in supporting MAT’s long-term growth strategy by exploring and developing a broader product portfolio.
